42nd Annual International Conference on Soils, Sediments, Water, and Energy
October 19 – 22, 2026 at University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA
Presentation and Poster By:
Moses A. Ajemigbitse, Ph.D. – VP Engineering Research at AquaBlok, Ltd.
Presentation Title:
Passive Management of PFAS Contaminated Surface Water, Stormwater, and Sediment
Session 09: PFAS Treatment on Wednesday at 8:30 AM
Presentation Information:
Cost-effective management of media contaminated with low but measurable concentrations of PFAS can be a challenge. Several sites with PFAS issues may require a solution that achieves 1-2 Log reductions without meeting a regulated level. The ability to implement a passive system for in-situ remediation of shallow groundwater, surface or storm waters, and impacted sediment could allow for a more sustainable, low-impact and lower cost approach. The development and assessment of an in-situ remediation approach which allows for a more sustainable, low-impact, and lower cost approach that reduces human health and ecological risk would represent a useful tool in the remediation toolbox.
This presentation will introduce several products and approaches that address PFAS contamination through soil stabilization, passive water treatment using powder amendments, and composite particles. Photos and data from pilot scale installations will also be presented.
Poster Title:
Development of New Amendment Materials for Comingled Hydrophobic and Heavy Metal Contaminated Sediments
